God promised that the Messiah would come from David and be a king Jer 23:5.  Always trying to thwart God’s plan, the Devil worked very hard on the kings of Judea.  He was quite successful persuading them to idolatry and the worst kinds of evil.  Finally God had enough with the last rightful king from David’s line.  I’d call this the day that all hell danced with the Devil in celebration…

Jeremiah 22:28-30

Is this man Jehoiachin a despised, broken pot,
an object no one wants?
Why will he and his children be hurled out,
cast into a land they do not know?
O land, land, land,
hear the word of the LORD !
This is what the LORD says:
“Record this man as if childless,
a man who will not prosper in his lifetime,
for none of his offspring will prosper,
none will sit on the throne of David
or rule anymore in Judah.”

God just cursed the royal line of the promise!  How can this be?  The devil must have been very happy with himself that day thinking he had finally won.  But, God had a different plan…

Isaiah 7:14  Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.

Remember Jesus’ genealogyJesus’ adopted earthly father, Joseph, carried the right to be king.  But he couldn’t be king because of the curse.  Mary carried the bloodline back to David.  Joseph and Mary was truly a match made in heaven.

Who else could fit these credentials but Jesus?
